U.S. Flag Background

See where lawmakers are deciding the future of your right to contraception

States across the U.S. are threatening our right to basic birth control like IUDs and the pill. Now, we are fighting back and introducing proactive bills to protect this freedom for good. With contraception at risk, we cannot wait to act!

State Actions

Alabama

When judges in our state put IVF in danger, it sent shockwaves through the entire nation. The same "personhood" language threatening IVF also threatens IUDs, Plan B, and other common forms of contraception. But when our state legislators had the opportunity to pass The Right to Contraception Act and protect birth control statewide, Republicans blocked it from a full vote on the Floor and shut down the session. Now more than ever, we need federal protections for contraception. Send a letter to your representative urging them to do the right thing and codify the right to contraception before it's too late!

Arizona

Protecting the right to contraception should be a priority for Arizona's state leaders. But the state GOP leaders like Sen. Borelli and Kari Lake are undermining our fundamental freedom to plan our families (learn more). Make sure Arizonans know about the threat to birth control in our state. Help us spread the word about this opportunity to protect contraception nationwide!

Spread the Word

California

In June 2022, just weeks after the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, all Republican California U.S. House members voted against the Right to Contraception Act in the U.S. House, including Valadao, Garcia, Calvert, and Steel. Since then, extremists have upped the attacks on contraception. Now more than ever, we need federal protections for contraception. Send a letter to your representative urging them to do the right thing and codify the right to contraception before it's too late!

Florida

Contraception is at risk in Florida. Governor DeSantis has repeatedly blocked funding for contraception under pressure from Catholic leaders and donors. This year, a state legislator even wrote a "fetal personhood" bill that could ban IUDs and threaten IVF. When Democrats in the state legislature introduced the Right to Contraception Act, which would have ensured no one could touch this fundamental right, it didn't even get a hearing. Then, in June 2024, Florida Republican Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio voted against the Right to Contraception Act. Will you help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide?

Spread the Word

Georgia

Shortly after the Dobbs decision, Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp was caught saying he was open to banning birth control. Georgia legislators introduced the Right to Contraception Act—to a flood of media coverage—to keep Governor Kemp from exploring his options. Georgia's Republican legislative leaders shut the session down without allowing for a vote on the bill. Will you help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide?

Spread the Word

Idaho

The right to contraception is under attack in Idaho. In 2021, state legislators passed a law that banned public universities from distributing information about emergency contraception. In 2022, the chair of a powerful state house committee specifically said banning Plan B and IUDs was on the table. Extreme actions like these have states across the nation proactively protecting reproductive freedoms. Idaho leaders need to know we want action, too. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to take up the bill to protect the right to contraception!

Iowa

After a court in Alabama took aim at IVF, the Iowa House of Representatives green-lit a bill to criminalize the death of an "unborn person." That legislative language puts all our reproductive rights at risk, from abortion to IVF to common forms of contraception like IUDs and Plan B. Unsurprisingly, Iowa Republicans even shut down the legislature in 2024 without allowing a vote on the Right to Contraception Act. In June 2024, both Republican Senators from Iowa (Grassley and Ernst) voted against the Right to Contraception Act. This cannot go unanswered. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to do the right thing and codify the right to contraception before it's too late!

Louisiana

Louisianans overwhelmingly support the right to contraception, but extremists are threatening this important freedom. In 2022, state lawmakers attempted to pass a law that would define life as starting "from the moment of fertilization." This dangerous language threatens IVF and contraception like IUDs and Plan B. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson once worked for one of the very organizations publicly taking aim at contraception. This year, Louisiana Republicans blocked the Right To Contraception Act and left our rights at risk. We need federal action. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to take up the bill to protect the right to contraception!

Mississippi

Mississippi overwhelmingly supports the right to contraception, but extremists are threatening this important freedom. Governor Reeves flat-out refused to rule out banning contraception during his re-election last year! This year, Mississippi Republicans blocked the Right To Contraception Act and left our rights at risk. We need federal action. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to take up the bill to protect the right to contraception!

Missouri

Missouri: Our rights are on the line. Right now, bills that have passed in our state contain language that endangers IVF and forms of contraception like IUDs and Plan B. Unless our legislators act now to pass a bill protecting these rights, a court could threaten our rights, just like what happened in Alabama. We need federal action. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to take up the bill to protect the right to contraception!

Montana

In 2022, 195 Republicans in Congress voted against the Right to Contraception Act, which protects common forms of birth control, like IUDs and Plan B. Montana's only representative at the time, Rep. Rosendale, not only voted against the bill, he has falsely equated contraception to abortion on the House floor. When the U.S. Senate took up this important legislation, only one of our senators, Jon Tester, voted for the bill. But Senate Republicans blocked it. Will you help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide?

Spread the Word

Nevada

Last year, Nevada's state legislature passed the Right to Contraception Act -- with bipartisan support! This important piece of legislation would have secured our right to common forms of contraception like IUDs, the pill, and Plan B. But Governor Lombardo VETOED the bill late on a Friday night, thinking no one would notice. We need your help to make sure Nevadans know about the attacks on our fundamental freedoms.

Spread the Word

New York

In June 2022, just weeks after the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, 195 GOP representatives voted against the Right to Contraception Act in the U.S. House. Since then, extremists have upped the attacks on contraception. Now more than ever, we need federal protections for contraception, but no GOP representatives, not even from New York, have signed on to support the bill. Send a letter to your representative urging them to do the right thing and codify the right to contraception before it's too late!

North Carolina

North Carolina legislators had the opportunity to protect our freedom to plan our families by passing the Right to Use Contraception Act. But GOP leadership blocked it from even being considered (learn more). With extremists taking aim at IVF, IUDs, and Plan B, and the GOP nominee for governor comparing birth control pioneers to "satanists," we need federal action. Send a letter to your member of Congress urging them to take up the bill to protect the right to contraception!

Ohio

In 2023, we voted to protect our fundamental freedom to plan our families. But nationwide, GOP Senators blocked the Right to Contraception Act—a bill Senator Sherrod Brown cosponsored. The GOP senate candidate in our state, Bernie Moreno, fought against Issue 1 and has repeatedly said, "I believe life begins at conception." That is the exact language that threatens IVF and common forms of birth control. Help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide!

Spread the Word

Tennessee

When Democrats in Tennessee's state legislature introduced the Right to Contraception Act, it got shut down without a vote. Then, in June 2024, Senate Republicans blocked the Right to Contraception Act. Our Senator, Marsha Blackburn, has criticized the landmark 1965 Supreme Court ruling that legalized access to contraception, labeling it "constitutionally unsound." Will you help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide?

Spread the Word

Virginia

Virginia's lawmakers passed the Right to Contraception Act—but Governor Youngkin vetoed it and kept our right to birth control at risk (learn more). This veto could have profound implications for Virginia and serve as a bellwether for national policies on reproductive rights. Help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide!

Spread the Word

Wisconsin

Wisconsin's GOP lawmakers unanimously voted to block the Right to Contraception Act from consideration (learn more). Senator Ron Johnson voted against the national version of the bill—a bill Senator Baldwin championed. Now, the GOP Senate candidate has taken aim at contraception and is spreading disinformation. Help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide!
