Virginia

The Right to Contraception Act passed through the Virginia legislature only to be vetoed by Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the court should also "reconsider" the right to contraception.

A month later, Congress voted on the Right to Contraception Act. Ninety percent of House Republicans voted against it, including Virginia Reps. Ben Cline, Bob Good, Morgan Griffith, and Rob Wittman.

Extreme lawmakers are putting our right to contraception at risk, and leaders in Virginia's state legislature stepped up. Both the state House and Senate passed the Right to Contraception Act, protecting Virginians' right to contraception, including condoms, the pill, IUDs, and Plan B. Unfortunately, the majority of GOP members of the General Assembly voted against these simple protections of our freedoms.

With all eyes on the Governor, Glenn Youngkin vetoed the bill that would have protected our freedom to plan our families. He refused to stand up to extremists and refused to stand for Virginians -- and we need to make sure he doesn't get away with it.

Virginia's lawmakers passed the Right to Contraception Act—but Governor Youngkin vetoed it and kept our right to birth control at risk. This veto could have profound implications for Virginia and serve as a bellwether for national policies on reproductive rights. Help us spread the word about the threat to contraception and the important opportunity to protect contraception nationwide!
